MoD's Strategic Push for Localized Defence Manufacturing

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has notified the sixth Positive Indigenisation List (PIL), covering 405 strategically vital items with an estimated business potential of ₹3,070 crore. Issued by the Department of Defence Production, this mandate targets critical Line Replaceable Units, sub-systems, sub-assemblies, spares, and raw materials.

The list covers essential components for frontline platforms, including the Tejas (LCA) and Su-30MKI fighter jets, T-72 and T-90 tanks, BMP-II armoured vehicles, warships, and key missile systems like Konkurs-M, Invar, and MRSAM. Out of the total items, 389 belong to Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and 16 to the Indian Coast Guard.  Ultimately, this initiative deepens local technological expertise, strengthens supply chain resilience against geopolitical shocks, and advances the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision in national security.
